Renovating bathroom walls

Hej,

We just started the renovation of the bathroom of our apartment and we have some questions regarding the tiling. Upon removing the old tiles, we saw that the tiles were attached directly to the brick wall with cement. I have attached some pictures so its more clear what I mean.

When looking online how to do tiling in a wet room, they almost always suggest the use of some form of vapour barrier (DAMPSPÆRRER?). How should we go about putting up new tiles? Should we just do it the same way it was done before? Should we add a vapour barrier? If yes, where should this barrier go?

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Lilla

Its not a wapor barrier you need. You need a waterproofing system, in Danish vådrumssikring, often made by LIP of Alfix in Denmark. They provide a box with a complete kit, and manual.

They both have youtube videos guiding the installation.

Before you apply the membrane, you must make sure to have even walls and floor.
For this you smooth the walls with mortar, called pudsemørtel. Then primer, then membrane, then tiles.
